How the units are worked out

Your vial holds a fixed amount of peptide. The water you add sets the concentration (how much peptide sits in each millilitre). The concentration then decides how much liquid carries your dose.

Three steps, in order:

  1. Concentration (mcg/mL) = peptide in the vial (mcg) divided by water added (mL).
  2. Volume (mL) = your dose (mcg) divided by the concentration (mcg/mL).
  3. Units to draw = volume (mL) multiplied by 100.

That last step is the syringe, not the peptide. A U-100 insulin syringe is marked so 100 units hold 1 mL, so 0.1 mL reads as 10 units.

A worked example

These are the numbers in the calculator above, worked through: 10 mg + 3 mL = 3,333 mcg/mL. 100 mcg = 0.03 mL = 3 units on a 0.3 mL syringe.

Mixing and storage

Run the water down the inside wall of the vial and let the powder dissolve on its own. Never shake it. Label the vial with the compound, the total mass, the water you added, the concentration and the date. A sealed freeze-dried vial keeps 12 to 24 months in the fridge at 2 to 8°C. Once mixed with preserved water, such as bacteriostatic water, that drops to roughly 28 days refrigerated. Keep it at the back of the fridge, away from light and away from the door's temperature swings.

Does DSIP actually help you sleep?
Maybe, a little, but the evidence is thin. Small 1980s trials in people with insomnia reported longer sleep and fewer wakings. Two later double-blind trials found the same direction of change, but far too small to matter in real life. One team concluded short-term use was unlikely to help much. No large modern trial has ever been run. So the honest answer is that nobody has properly settled it.
Why do the old studies disagree with each other?
Mostly because they were tiny. Most enrolled fewer than twenty people. At that size, one good sleeper or one bad night can swing the result. The early positive studies often came from the same research group that discovered the peptide. Later independent teams found weaker effects. Sleep is also easy to measure badly, and people report their own sleep unreliably. Small studies plus a subjective outcome is a recipe for mixed findings.
Is DSIP legal to buy or to be prescribed?
No approved DSIP medicine exists in the United States. The FDA has placed emideltide, its name for DSIP, among bulk substances that may present significant safety risks. The nomination to allow it in compounded medicines was withdrawn. An advisory committee voted against it in July 2026, and that vote was advice, not law. Nothing about its status has changed or been restored. Anything sold online is unapproved, and its purity is nobody's guarantee.
Is DSIP safe?
Nobody knows. The old trials were short and reported few problems. One 1981 study said it was well tolerated with no side effects seen. But a 2009 anaesthesia trial found it raised heart rate and reduced heart rate variability. Another group noted that the amounts used in studies were known to alter ECG traces. The FDA says it lacks the safety information needed to judge whether it would harm people. There is no long-term human safety record at all.
What did the 2009 anaesthesia trial find?
That trial is the most surprising piece of the story. Researchers gave DSIP to women having surgery under isoflurane anaesthesia. They expected it to deepen sleep and raise delta brain waves. It did the opposite. Delta rhythm fell, the anaesthesia got lighter on the monitor, and heart rate rose. The authors thought DSIP had reduced parasympathetic nerve tone, the calming side of the nervous system. That result sits badly with the peptide's own name.
Should I try DSIP for my insomnia?
That is a decision for you and a doctor, not a website. What the evidence supports is modest at best, and half the trials found nothing useful. There is no approved product, so anything you find is unregulated. Insomnia has treatments with far stronger evidence behind them, including cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia. If you still want to discuss DSIP, ask your doctor what is actually known about its safety.
