Why I built Underground Biohacking

I've spent my sporting life researching how to perform. Injury forced me to get peptides right.

I'm Chris Hallewell. I played competitive rugby, then went on to represent Singapore at Masters Touch Rugby. I've always been the one chasing the next edge, researching the latest science, testing the supplementation, doing whatever it took to stay at the top of my game. Then a serious back injury and two surgeries nearly ended it. Peptides were part of how I came back, but only once I stopped guessing and built a disciplined, science-backed protocol. Underground Biohacking exists so other men can do the same, without gambling with their recovery, their money, or their health.

How I got here

Two surgeries, a squad I'd lost, and a comeback I refused to guess my way to.

I've been a sportsman my whole life, and I've always treated my body as something worth optimising. Long before peptides, I was the one researching the latest supplementation, testing what actually worked, and chasing any legitimate edge that kept me performing. That instinct never switched off.

I played competitive rugby for years, then moved into Touch Rugby, where I earned representative selection for Singapore at Masters level. Reaching that standard, and holding it, took constant work.

As I entered my 40s, recovery started taking longer. The niggles piled up, I was leaning on painkillers more than I wanted to, and then a serious back injury changed everything. Two major surgeries later, I had to withdraw from the Singapore squad for the 2024 Touch World Cup.

Like a lot of men my age, I went looking for answers on social media, scrolling and watching video after video for something that would speed up my recovery. That's where I first came across BPC-157.

Normally I'm the sceptical one. I take my time and do the full due diligence before I touch a new supplement. But after so long in pain, and such a slow grind back from two operations, I was desperate for a quick win. I jumped in headfirst and started using it with no real plan and no proper research into how to build a recovery protocol.

I learned the hard way that taking peptides without a plan was doomed to fail, and an expensive way to find that out. So I stopped, and I did what I should've done from the start: I consulted a sports medicine clinician who guided me through building my first proper recovery protocol. That was the turning point. The results I'd been chasing finally came, my recovery accelerated, and I started making real strides back towards the field.

After more than two years out of the game, I was re-selected for the Singapore national squad to compete in a Test series, cementing a full return to high performance sport I'd quietly accepted might never happen.

Going through all of that, I saw the real problem. The peptide space is full of conflicting, poorly supported information and very little honest education. There are almost no tools to help someone make informed decisions about sourcing, planning, administering, and building protocols around their own goals. That gap is where Underground Biohacking began.
